  • 48 years as one of Wisconsin's premiere festivals, located on the shores of Lake Superior in Bayfield, Wisconsin, which is honored by the Chicago Tribune as the "Best Little Town in the Midwest".

  • 50,000 visitors attended 2009 Apple Festival from throughout the Midwest.
  • The Apple Festival features:
    • Over 46 orchards and food booths selling Bayfield's apples and apple desserts and delicacies all three days.
    • A kids' carnival with games, rides and favorite foods.
    • Plenty to buy and see including over 150 arts and crafts booths.
    • The annual grand parade on Sunday featuring Bayfield's exclusive 400 member "Mass Band" marching down Rittenhouse Avenue playing "On Wisconsin".
    • The annual Apple Dumpling Gang contest for the little ones.
    • Senior Social in Lakeside Pavilion on Thursday.
    • Apple Pie contest and sampling on Thursday evening.
    • The Venetian Boat Parade on Saturday evening at 7:30pm in the Memorial Park harbor.
    • Bus shuttles for easy parking at Hauser's Superior View Farm and Isle Vista Casino.
    • Bayfield Fire Department offers a traditional fish boil dinner on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Pavilion followed by a Saturday evening dance.
    • Ongoing street performers throughout the festival grounds.
    • Ongoing boat cruises of the Apostle Islands.
    • Musical entertainment at Isle Vista Casino.

Can't make it to Apple Festival? Then come later, as the apple harvest continues throughout October.
That's right - no need to worry if you can't make Applefest - Bayfield's Apple season continues through the end of October. There is plenty of apple picking and sampling going on. Most Bayfield orchards will be open daily through Oct. 31st, so be sure to enjoy the apple harvest all month! For further info, call 779-3335 or visit our orchard page for a list of orchards.

2009 Apple Festival Winners

The results for the Pie Baking Contest on Thursday are as follows:

Home Baked All-American Apple Pie:

  • 1st Place - Terri Miller
  • 2nd Place - Kianna Bear & Zachary Peterson

Home baked Creative Pie:

  • 1st Place - Andrea Burns
  • 2nd Place - Beth Kasinski

Commercial Pie:

  • 1st Place - Kathy Presnell of the Egg Toss Cafe
  • 2nd Place - Melinda Holverson of the Gourmet Garage

Apple Dessert:

  • 1st Place - Sharon Johnson & Marie Cupp
  • 2nd Place - Mercedes Soulier

Children's Dessert:

  • 1st Place - Ezra Presnell
  • 2nd Place - Jamee Hansen

The Apple peeling contest took place on Saturday afternoon. With the record holder - a surgeon - being absent this year, it was anyone's chance to win! The results were as follows:

    Adults:

  • 1st Place - France Whitfield with 95"
  • 2nd Place - Shiela Langer with 31"
  • 3rd Place - Brett McFarland with 22.5"

    Children:
  • 1st Place - Justin Miller with 57.5"
  • 2nd Place - Clayton Miller with 21"
  • 3rd Place - Michael Aasness with 10"

The parade was another success this year with 63 units participating including 12 high school marching bands. Each year local community members judge for three different categories. The 2009 results are as follows:

    Orchards:

  • 1st Place - Weber Orchard
  • 2nd Place - Erickson's Orchard
  • 3rd Place - Hauser's Ochard

    Organization:

  • 1st Place - Mt. Ashwabay
  • 2nd Place - Douglas County/Superior Chamber of Commerce
  • 3rd Place - Bayfield School Electrathon Club
