Wisconsin Secretary of Tourism Kelli Trumble to visit Bayfield

The 'greenest' community in the state receives commendation from Governor Doyle.

The Bayfield community welcomes Wisconsin Secretary of Tourism Kelli Trumble on Monday, May 11th at 2pm. This event will include a proclamation read by Bayfield Mayor Larry MacDonald and Bayfield Town Chair Tom Gordon, declaring Bayfield the 'greenest' community in Wisconsin. In addition, Secretary Trumble will present the Bayfield community with a special commendation from Governor Doyle.

"Bayfield business owners and residents are pleased to welcome Secretary Kelli Trumble. Our economy is critically dependent on tourism, while protecting the natural environment our visitors enjoy," explains Nancy Sandstrom, co-chair of the Bayfield Chamber Travel Green committee, "The Wisconsin Dept of Tourism is a nationwide leader in promoting sustainable tourism. Bayfield has been and continues to be a benefactor of their efforts. We welcome the opportunity to recognize our efforts and to thank Secretary Trumble for theirs." The Bayfield area is distinguished in having 35 businesses certified "Travel Green" - the most of any community in Wisconsin.

Becoming eco-municipalities in 2006, the Town and City of Bayfield set the tone for decisions each community would make becoming more sustainable and climate-friendly communities. Since then, Bayfield has led by example and truly become the 'greenest' community.

This exciting visit from Secretary Trumble is open to the public and is free. Blueberry Shortcake and coffee will be served. Ceremonies will begin at 2pm on Monday, May 11th at the gazebo in Memorial Park. In case of rain, this event will be held at the Bayfield Inn.
