The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore ice caves are a vision not to be missed. While they are not yet accessible over ice, visitors can hike along the beach or explore the trails above the caves by ski or snowshoe. For the adventurous traveler, transportation to Madeline Island is always a fun experience during the winter months. Currently the ferry is still operating between Bayfield and Madeline Island, but soon you maybe able to ride in the wind sled or drive on the ice road. When the end of February arrives Bayfield folks are ready to get a little crazy and have some outdoor fun. This means celebrating the annual Bayfield Winter Festival featuring the Polar Plunge, Run on Water a chili cook-off at Mt. Ashwabay, sledding down Bayfield's steepest street and much more. Visit Bayfield March 5th-7th for a weekend of exciting and unique activities including:

• Run on Water - Saturday, March 6th at 11am. This family fun event is open to people of all ages and skill levels. Participants can choose to run, walk, ski, or snowshoe the 5-mile course across frozen Lake Superior from Bayfield to Madeline Island and back. Download registration form at www.bayfield.org
• Polar Plunge - Saturday, March 6th at 3:30pm. Jump through a hole in the ice (or watch your neighbors) at the Bayfield Marina by Memorial Park - pledge forms available at the Bayfield Rec Center or register online at http://bayfieldreccenter.com/Polar_Bear_Plunge.html
