7) Apostle Islands National Lakeshore ice caves and sea caves
While the windswept cliffs, majestic bluffs and pristine shoreline throughout the Apostle Islands offer an endless bounty for the eyes, the highlight for many visitors is our world-famous sea caves. Carved out over thousands of years by the lapping blue waters of Lake Superior, the sandstone sea caves seem to magically glow with color in the golden sunlight of the early morning or late afternoon. When the snow falls, you can hike out to the caves on the Lake Superior ice to admire the enormous shimmering icicles that bring even greater beauty to the scene.
