What to Do

bicycle

From Apostle Islands kayaking to inspiring arts and crafts workshops to hiking and camping in beautiful Wisconsin state parks, Bayfield offers a veritable “What’s What” of what to do in Wisconsin.

You can do a lot. You can do a little. Or you can do nothing at all. It’s entirely up to you.

Most folks tell us they come to Bayfield to relax. The thing is, everyone seems to have a different idea of what that word means. For some, relaxation means setting off on a kayaking adventure to explore the famous Apostle Islands sea caves. For others, relaxation is wandering out into a sunny field to pick fresh berries or apples. And still others think relaxation means simply sitting beside the soothing waves of Lake Superior and enjoying the view while reading a good book.

The good news is, no matter what relaxation means to you, you’ll find plenty of ways to do it in Bayfield.

Lake Superior lies right at our doorstep, offering world-class freshwater sailing, fishing, scuba diving and swimming. Or you can simply enjoy the scenic views of the Lake by taking the ferry across to nearby Madeline Island. During the summer months, don’t miss the chance to go on a tour of the historic Raspberry Island Lighthouse – it’s a visit as unforgettable as the picturesque cruise through the Apostle Islands to get there!

Golfing, bicycling or hiking more your idea of relaxation? You’ll find a nationally recognized golf course just south of Bayfield affording fantastic views of Lake Superior, plus miles of open road and well-marked biking and hiking trails.

Looking to learn or enhance a hobby or art interest you already have? You’ll find inspiring workshops for your “inner artist” at the Madeline Island School of Arts, assorted arts and crafts shops and galleries, and at the Bayfield Recreation Center.

When the snow flies, you can also set to explore the pristine natural landscape while snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling or even going on a dog sledding adventure.

Shopping more your bag? Browse for handcrafted jewelry and art (and even “jewelry art”), unique wearables and other items at our several inviting galleries, boutiques and other stores.

When night falls, you’ll also find several intriguing entertainment options, including live music at Big Top Chautauqua, local theater productions and even a brand new casino resort.

With so many things to do, no wonder Bayfield ranks near the top of the list when it comes to Wisconsin Tourism! Learn more by exploring the pages of the individual activities that intrigue you most.
