Live music? Theatrical productions? Wandering through museums or art galleries? What’s your idea of a good time? You’ll find it in Bayfield. Here, you’ll find great Wisconsin attractions just about everywhere you turn.
Take Big Top Chautauqua, for instance. Not only does this unique venue attract acclaimed international and regional musicians and productions, Big Top Chautauqua allows you to experience these performances in an intimate, fresh-air setting under a distinctive blue and white canvas tent. For many visitors, it’s a true highlight of their trip!
Our community theater productions at StageNorth, located in nearby Washburn, feature local and regional talent performing entertaining plays and musicals throughout the year. And our bounty of museums offer fascinating exhibits that help detail the lifestyles and legacies of the fur traders, commercial fishermen, Ojibwe Indians and other native peoples who once called Bayfield home. You can also find the rich history and natural beauty of Bayfield reflected in the paintings and artwork on display in Bayfield’s inviting art galleries.
Feeling lucky? We’ve got great news for you. In August of 2011, we celebrated the Grand Opening of the Legendary Waters Resort and Casino in Red Cliff, just a short drive from town. This dazzling new complex includes a fabulous restaurant, 47 rooms of lodging and, of course, full casino gaming including slot machines and table games for your entertainment. It’s all located right on the shore of Lake Superior, offering guests and visitors sweeping views of the lake and Apostle Islands.
If you’re feeling a little inspired by the incomparable beauty of the Bayfield area, why not find a way to express it? You can find a wide range of artistic workshops and classes to get your creative juices flowing and refine your skills at the Madeline Island School of Arts, various Bayfield-area arts and crafts shops and galleries, and at classes offered by the Bayfield Recreation Center.
Looking for kids activities to keep the young ones entertained? Simply head over to the huge playground some folks call “Lake Superior” for a fun day of swimming and beach play. Or visit our actual playground, that offers plenty of slides and swings for tots. You’ll also find a recreation center with Olympic-sized indoor pool, a city-owned swim beach and beach volleyball court. In the winter, kids will love skating on the city ice rink or sledding and skiing at one of many nearby hills.
Art, entertainment and fun are just part of life in Bayfield. We think you’ll find it’s an unbeatable combination.
