Pick any season and Bayfield offers a unforgettable, can’t-miss festival or event to celebrate it. In fact, some of the best Wisconsin festivals and events take place right here. And our most famous event, Bayfield Apple Festival, has even been hailed as one of the “Top Ten Autumn Festivals in North America” by the Society of American Travel Writers.
The fun begins in Spring with our month-long “Bayfield in Bloom” celebration, when flower lovers from all over descend on Bayfield to admire our fields of more than 54,000 blooming daffodils, plus our famous wild lupine and rolling orchards of apple blossoms. The event also features special flower sales, garden tours, horticultural talks and a live broadcast by Wisconsin Public Radio’s Larry Meiller, host of the popular “Garden Talk” show.
When Summer rolls around, you can partake in the traditional Blessing of the Fleet, when ships and boats of all sizes and purposes parade through the harbor to be blessed for a safe and prosperous season. Of course, it wouldn’t be summer without an exciting Fourth of July celebration, and Bayfield offers one of Wisconsin’ best. You can enjoy strawberry picking and live entertainment at Big Top Chautauqua before heading back into town to watch not just one, but TWO dazzling fireworks displays over the harbor. And don’t miss our famous Festival of Arts, when dozens of artists from across the Midwest gather to show and sell their work, offer inspiring workshops and talks and more.
Fall is harvest time, which around Bayfield means it’s time to enjoy the bounty and beauty of the land around us. It starts with the Apple Festival, our world-famous celebration of all things apple-from apple pies and caramel apples to apple bratwurst and even apple mustard! The event also features a Grand Parade including a 500-member “mass band”, a kids carnival and MUCH more. And don’t forget Bayfield’s Fall Harvest Celebration, when you can savor the jaw-dropping colors of Fall along with mouth-watering cuisine crafted from locally-grown seasonal produce and fresh-caught fish.
As the holidays approach, don’t miss the chance to head to Bayfield for the Hometown Holiday Season. You can be part of the traditional Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, enjoy carols by the famous Rittenhouse Inn Singers, browse our quaint shops for the perfect holiday gifts and more. Then be sure to return to Bayfield for the famous Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race, when you can join the excitement of watching some of the Midwest’s top sled dog teams compete for top honors at this two-day race-and you can even be part of the fun by volunteering in any of a number of roles!
