Bayfield Apple Festival

Apple Festival October 1–3, 2021

It’s the best time of year for those seeking autumn beauty and fall festivals, it’s Bayfield Apple Festival time! The Bayfield Chamber & Visitors Bureau and its stakeholders are excited to bring back one of “Wisconsin’s Best Festivals,” coined by Wisconsin Trails Magazine.

No doubt we all have had to be flexible over the last year and a half as we navigate through changes and modifications brought about by the global pandemic. This year’s Apple Festival will also look a little bit different. However, we are excited to announce two music venues to help space out the entertainment while bringing back some festival favorites

Live music will be provided by the exquisite musicianship of Big Top Chautauqua’s house band, the Blue Canvas Orchestra. Find them at the Grandstand Stage across from the chamber office on the corner of Manypenny Avenue and Broad Street.  Music kicks off Friday at Noon after the opening festival proclamation by the Mayor.

We also have a wonderful line up of local live music happening all weekend at the Memorial Park Gazebo. Kicking off the festival will be Yazmine Bowers on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday stop by to see Warren Nelson, the founder of Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua! Please check the schedule of events for times and specific artists.

Many of the outdoor events will still take place including the Friday Farmer’s Market, food and craft vendors all weekend long, the firemen’s fish fry and our annual apple peeling contest. The contest takes place on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Grandstand Stage. Fun fact, the longest apple peel ever recorded as part of the contest was 387 inches!

We always wrap up the weekend events with a Grand Parade down Rittenhouse Avenue starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Unfortunately, there will be no mass band this year due to so many schools having different COVID-19 mitigation strategies. All kids 10 and younger can still participate in the Apple Dumpling Gang. Membership into this very special club offers kids the opportunity to ride in the Grand Parade and will receive a Bayfield goody bag and hat!

While there is lots of time to be spent in downtown Bayfield, the true celebration is of the apple orchards! Make sure you take a drive and stop at one of the 14 apple and berry orchards  to see why Bayfield has been coined the “Berry Capital of Wisconsin.” You must try an apple stick at Erickson Orchards and Country Store. See how apples are processed at Bayfield Apple Company, and pick your own apples at Hauser’s Superior View Farm. Hauser’s will also have a free shuttle from the orchard to downtown Bayfield, making parking a breeze!

Bayfield has been buzzing all summer with visitors and we expect Apple Festival weekend will be no different. Please be mindful and respectful of each other to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe experience! This festival would not be possible without our dedicated sponsors and volunteers! Thank you so much to all of those who put in the time and effort to make this year’s festival safe and fun for everyone!

Below is a list of changes for the 2021 festival. The decisions were made with input from our stakeholders and the Bayfield County Health Department.

  • We are recommending people wear masks in crowds and in indoor spaces. Please be respectful of each individual business and what mitigation strategies are in place at their establishments.
  • There will be no Mass Band in the 2021 parade.
  • No apple pie and dessert contest.
  • No senior pie social.
  • Music venues will be spread out across downtown Bayfield.
  • No carnival.
