Accessing Mainland Sea Caves
The mainland sea caves of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, which are the same caves that become the world-famous ice caves in winter, are accessible via boat and hiking trail from Meyers Beach. The trailhead is located at the Meyers Beach parking lot, on Meyers Road, which is 4 miles east of Cornucopia on State Highway 13. Parking for vehicles with trailers is available. There is a $5 per day parking fee, or $8 per day for vehicles more than 20', payable on site.
The hiking trail extends approximately 4.5 miles, with a boardwalk over the first 0.7 miles of the trail. The first sea cave overlook is about 2 miles from the trailhead.
This trail is rugged with stream crossings and steep slopes. The trail is usable year-round, but in winter it may be snow packed or icy. Cross-country skiing is not recommended and snowshoe use is difficult.
